D6.3 – User’s Guide: conceptual framework & methodology behind the GIS application
This user’s guide was developed in order to present the methodology and the conceptual framework behind the SEEMLA GIS application, which includes geoprocessing models to automate and document the data management and spatial analysis for the identification and assessment of marginal lands in Europe, and its purpose is to provide guidance to potential users about the processes, adaptations and input datasets.
DUTH is leading this task. BTU CS & FNR provide insight regarding the adaptation of the geospatial data currently available soil data and their incorporation in the algorithm.
The SEEMLA GIS application was developed as a toolbox for ESRI ArcGIS desktop (v.10.2.2 or newer), comprising the following toolsets:
1. Identification of MagL using the Muencheberg Soil Quality Rating index (SQR)
2. Selection of MagL available for biomass production for bioenergy (Bioenergy Suitability)
3. MagL availability for specific bioenergy crops (Crops4MagLs).
